Carolina Meurkens

Born and raised in New York City, Carolina Meurkens (she/her) is a writer, storyteller, creative entrepreneur and marketing specialist, with a passion for centering underrepresented voices and utilizing storytelling techniques to assist organizations looking to develop their online presence and expand their reach. As a multi-hyphenate creative, Carolina's artistry is an exploration of her Afro-Brazilian/ German ancestry and what it means to be a queer biracial woman in today’s society. She utilizes storytelling in the form of interviewing, creative nonfiction, curation, and event production to disseminate untold narratives and build community for other Queer and BIPOC artists.

Carolina is the co-founder of An Indivisible Art Collective, a D.C based arts non-profit that offers accessible arts-education workshops and community oriented events. She’s also the co-founder and Editor-in-Chief of MIXED MAG, an online community and multimedia platform that publishes work by creatives of color and celebrates multiethnic/ multicultural perspectives.

Carolina is an alum of the MFA in Creative Nonfiction program at Goucher College. She is currently at work on her debut HOW WE CAME TO BE, a memoir-in-essays that grapples with girlhood and sexual morality, family and duty, love and community.

As a copywriter and marketing strategist, Carolina has worked with non-profit organizations and small businesses to develop their brand story by fine-tuning their social media presence, designing social assets, creating and maintaining websites, writing newsletters and other marketing materials.

Carolina currently serves as the Multicultural Marketing Manager at the Penguin Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House, where she provides support to marketing teams by creating divisional campaigns, reviewing campaign plans, messaging, and digital assets with an eye toward reaching multicultural audiences, and developing marketing tools to meet today’s challenges.

Carolina is available for freelance projects and commissions.
